Norris Takes Pole with McLaren Front-Row Lockout, Verstappen Third

VistaRossa Editorial Team

Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, with teammate Oscar Piastri coming within just eight hundredths of a second behind him, completing the McLaren front-row lockout. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, following a rapid first two sectors but a slower third sector, finished off the top three in the session, separated by just over three tenths from the two McLarens.

George Russell was the lead Mercedes by far, finishing fourth, which will see him join Verstappen on the second row tomorrow. Yuki Tsunoda placed his RB in a surprising fifth place, with a blistering lap from him putting him ahead of the Williams of Alexander Albon and the two Ferraris, who finished P7 (Leclerc) and P8 (Hamilton), who both lost massive time in the final sector.

Following the Scuderia, Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz completed the top 10 of this qualifying session.
